Welcome to JSH Blues!
Our life together began in 1985 in North Central California. We purchased a small parcel of vacant land in 1989 and built a new home and barn. After months of new fencing, we started our cattle adventure. Our first beef cattle were Red Brangus as they were very adaptable to the valley summer heat.
Then one summer day in 2000, at a local county fair, we saw our first Belgian Blue. The bull was on exhibit with some literature posted on his pen. Our curiosity was peaked as we had never seen anything like that bull, having been around cattle all of our lives. After returning home, we got on the internet to do some research.
Our first experiment was crossing our existing Red Brangus cows with Belgian Blue semen by artificial insemination, just to see if we could get a beefier calf for our beef customers. What a success! Right away our existing beef customers noticed the difference. Everyone was telling us that they didn't know what we were doing different, but the meat was the best that they had ever had. Another plus to the crossbreeding resulted in the much calmer temperament in the calves and resulting cattle. And after putting the first meat in the freezer for ourselves, we were sold on the breed. From that point on, it was Belgian Blue.
Then in 2004, after juggling our full time jobs with At&T
and raising our cattle, we decided to take the plunge and retire to raise our cattle full time. Needing more land to grow our herd, we moved to North East Oregon to escape California's rising land prices. After several years of traveling back and forth from the West coast to the Midwest for cattle sales and to show our cattle in the sanctioned shows, in 2007 we decided to take another plunge and we moved lock, stock (96 head) and barrel to SW Missouri to be more centrally located. So here we are now to help you with some of the best beef you will ever eat and some of the best cattle you can raise. Whether it's feeder calves, show animals, breeding stock or finished freezer beef, we can fill your needs.
We DO NOT use growth hormones, animal by-products or added antibiotics in the feeding process of our cattle. Our cattle are only fed natural grass, farm raised hay, and grains specially mixed for us to be "ALL NATURAL".
